“ The scenes in my paintings and drawings

are that of my alter ego, the 12 year old girl who believes in magic and animal gods, who is invincible, brutal yet kind; the girl who likes to venture into the dark in order to make light of the one we live in.”

Hazel Ang is a full-time artist presently working in Munich, Germany. She was born in the Philippines to a multi-cultural household, and grew up in Toronto, Canada. Soon after finishing studies in communication design, she moved to Germany where she lived and worked as a graphic artist in media and product design for over a decade.

In 2012, she returned to painting and hasn't stopped ever since. That year was a turning point for her after two of her most beloved family members passed on. She felt an urgency to return to her roots so she picked up the brush and started to paint again. Her current body of works are painted on either canvas or wood panel. Through strong line-work, drawing, gestural strokes, and dark tones punctuated with moments of light, she seeks to relive narratives from her own dreams and from her childhood. Other driving influences come from folklore and a profound connection to nature. The result is a body of art with elements of mysticism, animism, and alchemy.
